Funeral services for Verle Dunn of Donnelly, MN will be Thursday, July 28, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Kongsvinger Lutheran Church, rural Donnelly. Reverend Michael Nelson will be officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Verle Edward Dunn, son of Paul and Augusta (DeVries) Dunn, was born July 9, 1929 in Lawrence Township in Grant County, Minnesota. Verle grew up and attended school in south west Elbow Lake Township, District #39. He was confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Herman. Verle started farming at the young age of 14. On May 20, 1951, he was united in marriage to Helen Hagen at Kongsvinger Lutheran Church, rural Donnelly. The couple made their home in the Donnelly area, where Verle continued dairy and ag farming with his sons. In 1988, they sold the cows and moved to Donnelly. Helen died on February 18, 2002. Verle continued to live in Donnelly and on June 11, 2005, he married Della Stevenson at St. John's Lutheran Church in Donnelly. Verle and Della continued to live in Donnelly and Verle continued to stay active in the farming operation. He entered West Wind Village in Morris in 2015, where he continued to live until the time of his death.
Verle was a member of Kongsvinger Lutheran Church, where he served on the church board and the cemetery board. He also served on the West Central Homes Board and was president of the Donnelly Coop. Verle always enjoyed going to the auto races with Helen. They were honored to be fans of the week at the Viking Speedway. Verle enjoyed driving around every day, checking the crops and always had a wave for you. He loved to visit with family and friends.
Verle died on Sunday, July 24, 2016 at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris, MN, having lived to 87 years.
He is survived by his wife: Della Dunn of Donnelly; three children: Lyle Dunn of Herman, Julie (James) Busse of Appleton and Lowell (Sandra) Dunn of Herman; five grandchildren: Chandra (Steve) Schmitz of Sauk Centre, Tyler Busse (and friend: Maggie Wiener) of Appleton and Mikell, Mark and Mason Dunn of Herman; one great-granddaughter: Shaelyn Schmitz of Sauk Centre; two brothers: Roy (Arlene) Dunn of Cottage Grove and Gerald (Jan) Dunn of Albertville and one brother-in-law: Marlyn Hagen of Sylmar, CA. He was preceded in death by his first wife: Helen Dunn; one son: Verlyn Dunn; his parents; sisters and brothers-in-law: Darlene (Verde) Stoneburg, Carol (Roy) Frank and Joyce (Gerald) Roman and one sister-in-law: Marlys Hagen.
