Verna Stadsvold

Verna Evelyn Espelien, daughter of Albert and Olava (Lien) Espelien, was born March 21, 1925 in Blue Mounds Township in Pope County, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at West Zion Lutheran Church by Reverend K. R. Palmer. She grew up on the family farm and attended country school. Following her schooling, she worked at the Midway Store and for Helen and Palmer Opdahl. On July 2, 1944, she was united in marriage to Julian Norris Stadsvold at the Zion Lutheran Parsonage by Reverend K. R. Palmer. After a few years of marriage, the couple moved North of Starbuck, where they farmed and raised their five children. In 1983, they moved into Starbuck, where they continued to live until the time of Verna's death.
Verna was a member of Indherred Lutheran Church in Starbuck, where she was active with the Ladies Aid and also taught Sunday school. She also belonged to the Mothers Club for the country school. She enjoyed bowling, gardening, embroidery and making donuts. She especially enjoyed the time she spent with her family and friends.
Verna died on Sunday, May 20, 2007 at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, having lived to reach the age of 82 years.
She is survived by her husband: Julian Stadsvold of Starbuck; five children: Judy (Mike) Johnson of Starbuck, Dennis (George) Stadsvold of Lowry, Jim Stadsvold of St. Paul, Chuck (Deb) Stadsvold of Starbuck and Mary (Mike) Erickson of Starbuck; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers: Oley, Edward, Arnie, Clarence and Don Espelien and one sister: Lillian Norby.
Serving as pallbearers for the service are Verna's grandchildren: Chad Stadsvold, Chris Stadsvold, Ryan Stadsvold, Cory Stadsvold, Mitch Erickson, Matt Stadsvold, Bobbi Jo Stadsvold and Michelle Shea. Honorary pallbearers are Verna's great-grandchildren: Abby Stadsvold, Triston Korkowski, Benton Stadsvold, Kelsey Stadsvold, Jackson Stadsvold, Hunter Stadsvold, Haley Shea and Neal Stadsvold. Amy VanZee will be serving as organist for the service with Joy Smith and Bob Espelien serving as soloists. Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck is in charge of the arrangements.
