The funeral for Veronica Berger of Morris will be held on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at 10:30 a.m at the Assumption Catholic Church in Morris. Celebrant for the service will be Father Todd Schneider. Visitation will be on Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at the Calvary Cemetery, Morris.
Veronica Josephine Kill, daughter of William and Elizabeth (Schumacher) Kill was born on August 27, 1916 in Morris, Minnesota, where she grew up and attended school. She graduated from St. Mary's Catholic High School in 1935 and began working on the family farm. Veronica was united in marriage to Nels Berger on January 24, 1939 at the Assumption Catholic Church in Morris. The couple made their home in Synnes Township near Morris where they farmed. In 1949, they moved to Alberta, Minnesota where Veronica worked as a cook at the Alberta Public School. In 1953, Veronica and Nels moved their family to Morris. Over the years, Veronica worked candling eggs, as a clerk of probate court for Stevens County and at the Sunwood Inn Motel. She also worked as a green thumb coordinator at the Morris Senior Center. Nels died on November 27, 1998. Veronica continued to live in Morris and became a resident at the West Wind Village in the summer of 2006.
Veronica was a member of the Assumption Catholic Church, Fraternal Order of the Eagles and Morris Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed reading, painting and crafts and will be remembered for her good cooking and sewing.
Veronica died on Friday, October 24, 2014 at the West Wind Village in Morris. She was 98 years old.
She is survived by two daughters, Lynn (Larry) Anderson, Morris and Sister Betty Berger O.S.F., Minneapolis; two grandchildren, Mark (Jackie) Anderson, Elk River and Stephanie Gausman, Morris; three great-grandchildren, Andrew and Emily Gausman, Morris and Jocelyn Schwartz, Elk River and several nieces and nephews. Veronica was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one granddaughter, Veronica Lynn Anderson, four brothers John, Mike, Steve and Joe and one sister, Mary Satzer.
