Funeral services for Victor Zeiher, Sr of Morris will be held Friday, January 14, 2011 at 10:30 AM at Assumption Catholic Church in Morris, MN. Father Tim Baltes will be officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5 to 7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Morris. Military rites will be provided by the Morris American Legion, VFW and AmVets.
Victor William Zeiher was born April 4, 1918 to William and Mary Zeiher in Dumont, Minnesota. Vic attended St. Mary's Academy in Graceville, MN through his freshman year and graduated from Graceville Public School as Valedictorian in 1935. He attended the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis from 1937 to 1942, and graduated with a BS Degree in Electrical Engineering.
Vic served in the Navy during World War II, commissioned as an ensign in 1943. He was released to inactive duty in 1946 at the rank of Lieutenant. After completing his military service, Vic returned home to Minnesota, and subsequently found employment with the Otter Tail Power Company. His Otter Tail career began in Fergus Falls, MN, where he also met, and married Margaret (Buhl) June 7, 1948. In 1951, they moved to Morris, MN, Vic continuing his advancement in Otter Tail and Margaret working in the hospitals in the region.
Vic was very active in the Morris community in the Chamber of Commerce where he served as president for many years. He was involved in the establishment of The Villa of St. Francis Nursing Home (now West Wind Village) and subsequently served on the Villa Board. Vic was active in the Assumption Church as a member and on the Church Board. He took an active role in the Boy Scouts and served with the Knights of Columbus for over 50 years.
Vic died on Sunday, January 9, 2011 at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris, MN, having lived to reach the age of 92 years.
He is survived by his daughter, Susan Dahl of Anchorage, AK and granddaughter, Kathleen and great-granddaughter, Angelina; his son, Victor Zeiher, Jr and wife Verna of Morris, MN and grandson, Jeffrey; his daughter, Mary Zeiher and husband Bob Arndorfer of Fairview, OR. Vic was preceded in death by his wife Margaret, son-in-law Robert Dahl, and his brother Bill and sisters, Hildegard, Clara, Erma and Helen.
Serving as honorary pallbearers are: Vic's grandchildren: Jeffrey Zeiher and Kathleen Dahl and the Knights of Columbus. Linda Hodgson will serve as pianist for the service with Holly Giese serving as soloist/song leader. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
