Virgy Carolyn Rinken

Memorial services for Virgy Rinken of Glenwood, Minnesota, will be held Saturday, March 4, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Chippewa Falls Lutheran Church, in Terrace, with Reverend Brenda Boogren officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.  Burial will be in the church cemetery at a later date. 

Virgy Carolyn Eskelson, daughter of Carl and Olive (Schey) Eskelson, was born January 9, 1927 in Glenwood, Minnesota.  She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brooten.  Virgy grew up on a farm near Sedan where she attended grade school, later graduating from Glenwood High School in 1944.  She was united in marriage to Arnold Rinken on February 7, 1946 in Charleston, South Carolina.  Virgy and Arnold farmed for a short time near Sedan, and later owned and operated Rinken’s Bus Service in Glenwood for 40 plus years.  Virgy enjoyed driving bus, later driving the senior citizen bus for the city of Glenwood. She also worked as an activities’ aide at the Glenwood Retirement Village.  Arnold passed away April 13, 2018.  Virgy continued to live in Glenwood until the time of her death.

Virgy was a lifelong member of Chippewa Falls Lutheran Church where she was active in bible study and ladies’ aide. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, and telling stories. She was known for telling Ole and Lena jokes and making people laugh.  She was very sociable and loved visiting and having a cup of coffee.  Most of all, Virgy loved spending time with her family. 

Virgy passed away Saturday, February 25, 2023 at the Glenwood Retirement Village in Glenwood.  She was 96 years old.

She is survived by five children: Gail (Dale) Pasche, Susan Wink, Julie (Ralph) Tart, Steven (Jodi) Rinken and Robin (Travis) Robinson; son-in-law: Harvey Rust; twelve grandchildren: Shane, Kyle, Nick, Tami, Luke, Joel, Kristine, Mackinze, Elizabeth, Alissa, Tanner and Max and eleven great-grandchildren: Cody, Eli, Jed, Ashley, Cora, Eian, MaKayla, Jase, Remington, Layne and Landon. She was preceded in death by her husband: Arnold Rinken; daughter: Carolyn Rust; granddaughter: Karmen!, son-in-law: Mike Wink; her parents; and one brother: Loren Eskelson.
