Wallace “Wally” Berg Horning was born April 20, 1933 in Graceville, Minnesota the son of Orville and Lillian (Berg) Horning. He was raised on the family farm 10 miles northwest of Chokio. He was baptized July 2, 1933 and later confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church north of Johnson. He attended Chokio High School graduating with the class of 1951.

Wally met a beautiful 16-year-old high school girl, Peggy Blakesley, while roller skating at Perkins. The couple married on April 10, 1953 at Trinity Lutheran Church. They operated a dairy farm from 1954 – 1965 and then moved to a farm in Eldorado Township where they lived until July, 2024 when they moved to Legacy Assisted Living in Morris.

Wally was always a farmer at heart and his children meant the world to him. His mischievous smile and the twinkle in his eyes conveyed his love for family and his many friends. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting (many elk hunting trips, but he never got one). He served on the Herman School Board and various council positions at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Herman. He enjoyed attending the many sporting events of his children, loved to “tinker” and fix anything and everything, and especially enjoyed the annual Minnesota Twin game with the Martins in the Red Owl Van.
