Walter Peter Reimers, son of Mathias Jr. and Eliesabeth (Giese) Reimers, was born March 10, 1907 in Synnes Township in Stevens County, Minnesota, where he grew up and attended country school. Walter was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Alberta, Minnesota. Following his schooling, Walter remained on the family farm and helped with the daily farming operations. On June 8, 1936, he was united in marriage to Nettie Nelson. To this union three children were born. Following their marriage, Walter and Nettie remained on the Reimers family farm. Nettie died on July 18, 2008. Walter moved to West Wind Village in 2007, where he has continued to live until the time of his death.
Walter was a past member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Alberta. He later joined Zion Lutheran Church in Morris. Walter served on various boards, the Rural School District #37 School Board, The Alberta Coop Elevator and the Stevens County FHA Committee. He also served as an election judge. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing with his friends and hunting with his sons and grandsons. When Walter was young he played pasture league baseball and was a great fan of the Minnesota Twins. Walter especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Walter died on Saturday, July 25, 2009 at West Wind Village in Morris, MN, having lived to reach the age of 102 years.
He is survived by two sons: George (Nancy) Reimers of Burnsville and Lyle (Nancy) Reimers of Mountain Iron; one daughter: Ruth (William) Pacey of Dublin, OH; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; one brother: Fred Reimers and two sisters: Martha and Anna.
Pallbearers for the service are: Allen Reimers, David Reimers, Henry Reimers, Wayne Reimers, Lowell Nelson and Sheldon Rieppel. Honorary pallbearers are: Milton Giese, Robert Giese, Rev. Gordon Bock, Charles Mesenbrink and Lloyd Thielke. Dorothy Maus will serve as organist for the service. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
