Warren Baukol, son of Marcus and Betsy (Ronnie) Baukol, was born on December 2, 1920 in New Prairie, Minnesota. Warren grew up in Starbuck and graduated from Starbuck High School. He continued his education graduating from Luther College. Following his schooling, Warren served in the United States Army during World War II. Most of his tour of duty was spent stationed in Iceland. He was united in marriage to Agnes Gudmundsdottir on December 12, 1944 in Reykjavik, Iceland by the Bishop of Iceland. After Warren's honorable discharge from the Army the couple returned to the Starbuck area. Warren taught at the Veterans Agriculture School for several years. Warren then began farming full time and in 1967 he started teaching at the Starbuck High School, where he taught for 20 years. Warren continued to farm until the time of his death.
Warren was one the first Post Commanders at the Starbuck VFW. He served on the board of directors for Mid-America Life Insurance for forty years. Warren enjoyed golfing and fishing. He was very active at Immanuel Lutheran Church, but above all he loved his family and was very devoted to them.
Warren died on Good Friday, April 6, 2007 at Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris, MN, having lived to reach the age of 86 years.
He is survived by his wife: Agnes of Starbuck; sons: Marcus (Debby) Baukol of Thousand Oaks, CA, David (Dianne) Baukol of Montevideo; daughters: Joan (Roger) Wiley of Ramsey, Ruth (Del) Grussing of Andover; 12 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; brother: Peder (Timmie) Baukol of Starbuck. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister: Bernice Baukol and brothers: Lawrence, Melvin and Chester Baukol.
Pallbearers for the service will be Warren's Grandchildren: Matthew Baukol, Geoffrey Baukol, Adam Baukol, Collin Baukol, Lori Gripentrog, Allison Surma, Alan Wiley, Christopher Baukol, Eric Baukol, Travis Baukol, Nathan Grussing and Patty Grussing. Dee Syverson will serve as organist for the service with Todd Brenden serving as soloist. Starbuck Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
