Funeral services for Wayne "Pete" Bright of Cyrus, MN will be held Monday, September 2, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at Assumption Catholic Church in Morris. Father Todd Schneider will be officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. with a rosary at 3:45 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Morris.
Wayne "Pete" Glenwood Bright, son of Wes and Mary (Seigfried) Bright, was born August 11, 1929 in Winnebago, Minnesota. He attended Alden Grade School through the 6th grade and then moved to Cyrus, where he graduated from Cyrus High School in 1947. Following his schooling, he farmed the family farm, which he later purchased from his dad. He retired from farming in 2010. Pete was united in marriage to Muriel Chevalier on September 1, 1948.
Pete was a member of Assumption Catholic Church in Morris. He was inducted into the Minnesota Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame in 1978. He served on the various boards: Cyrus School Board for 16 years, New Prairie Township Board for 7 years, MREA, CPA, MAC, REA, the hospital board in Starbuck for 9 years, the Villa of St Francis and Sky View Court for several years. He was also an honorary member of the Cyrus Lions Club. Pete was a great lover of pets and gardening and all sports, especially America's favorite past-time, baseball. He enjoyed spending time with all kids and the elevator family. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
Pete died on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at his farm in New Prairie Township in Pope County, having lived to reach the age of 84 years.
He is survived by his wife Muriel Bright of Cyrus; two sons: Donald Bright of Coon Rapids and Richard (Lynn) Bright of Cyrus; three daughters: Bonnie Hyatt of Oakdale, Janelle Bright of Bertha and Mary Bright of Blaine; eight grandchildren: Casey (Marnie) Bright, Adam Bright, Jolene Bright, A.J. Hyatt, Wes Bright, Heather Hyatt, Jon Bright and Aaron Bright; two great-grandchildren: Quinn Ivy and Hudson Cyrus; one brother: Charles (Phyllis) Bright of Morris and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Beulah (Cliff) Paulson, Dorothy (Norman) Thompson and Mary Jane (Leonard) Thompson and one nephew: Daryl Bright.
