Wayne Homer Delp, son of Clifford and Cornelia (Stromseth) Delp, was born at his home in Moore Township, in rural Hancock, Minnesota. He was baptized at home on March 27, 1930. Wayne grew up in rural Hancock attending Pope County District #39 Kindergarten through eighth grade graduating July 9, 1943. At the age of five, Wayne would complete his chores in the barn before walking to school with his neighbor friends. One day another boy at school knocked Wayne down in the snow but his big sister Marvella came to his defense and pushed that boy's face into the snow. No one bothered him after that. He graduated from Minnesota West Central School of Agriculture in 1950. Welding was one of his favorite classes, taught by Mr. Rolfe. He was united in marriage to Dolores Drewes on May 1, 1955 at Peace Lutheran Church in Morris, Minnesota. To this union was born their daughter Laurie. The couple started farming just one mile from where Wayne grew up. In 1965, the couple purchased and moved their family to Wayne’s home farm. Wayne loved farming with all of his heart from an early age. Wayne was a dedicated steward of the land & was very successful raising hogs and managing his dairy operation. Wayne retired from farming in 2008. In 2018, he moved into Julia’s Place, in Hancock, Minnesota where he continued to live until the time of his death.
Wayne was a member of Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church and the Farmer’s Union. As a teenager he enjoyed roller skating, ice skating, playing cards and eating chocolate cake and pickles with the neighbor boys.
Wayne died on Sunday, December 9, 2018 at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris, MN. He was 89 years old.
