The funeral for Wesley Ernest Irwin, of Henning, Minnesota will be held on Thursday, May 5, 2011 at 10:30 at the Pedersen Funeral Home Chapel in Morris, Minnesota, with Reverend Art Montgomery officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral. Burial will be at the Summit Cemetery, Morris.
Wesley Ernest Irwin, son of Curtis and Virene (Peters) Irwin was born on June 18, 1957 at Morris, where he grew up and attended school. After his schooling, he got a degree in small engine repair at St. Cloud. Wesley was united in marriage to Lois Odden on February 24, 1978 in South Dakota. The couple lived in Morris, where Wesley worked as a mechanic. They moved to Wisconsin for a short time, where Wesley worked for a John Deere Dealer, before returning to the Morris area in the early 1980's. In 1993, he married Iva Akkerman. Wesley worked for the various group homes in Morris until his health no longer allowed him to work. In 2002, he moved to Wadena to help care for his grandchildren, before moving to Henning a week before his death.
Wes enjoyed hunting, fishing and building roadsters. He raised Siberian husky dogs, which he used as sled dogs for racing. Wes also enjoyed building dog sleds, which he and others used in dog racing. Wes will always be remembered as "Grandpa to Everyone".
Wesley died on Thursday, April 28, 2011 after a long battle with diabetes, at his home in Henning. He was 53 years old.
He is survived by his mother, Virene (George) Irwin-Nagl, Morris, two sons, Daniel (Daisy) Irwin, Perham, and Curtis Irwin, Rush City; one daughter, Kristina Irwin, Ottertail, four brothers, Clayton (Lorraine) Irwin, Cut Bank, MT, John Irwin, Morris, Dan (Karen) Irwin, Martin City, MT, and Ivan Irwin, Curium, MT; seven grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers for the funeral will be Clayton Irwin, John Irwin, Ivan Irwin, Dan E. Irwin, Dan L. Irwin, Curt Irwin, Mason Irwin and Rick Strubble.
