Funeral services for Wilbert Gades of Starbuck, Minnesota will be held Monday, November 17, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Morris. Reverend Carlton Anderson will be officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Burial will be at a later date in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Fairfield Township near Holloway, MN.

Wilbert August Frederich Gades, son of Herman and Anna (Carstens) Gades, was born September 22, 1924 in Fairfield Township in Swift County, Minnesota, where he was baptized on October 12, 1924 by Rev. F.C. Jaus and confirmed on April 10, 1938 by Rev. A. Jurberbier. Wilbert grew up in Swift County and attended Parochial School at Trinity Lutheran Church. On March 11, 1945, he was united in marriage to Mary DeBolt by Rev. Ernest Willie in Bellingham, Minnesota. The couple lived and farmed in Swift County until 1956, when they moved to Swan Lake Township. Over the years, Wilbert did custom work for his neighbors. Wilbert and Mary continued to farm until 1993, when they retired and moved to Starbuck, Minnesota.

Wilbert enjoyed playing baseball on the Fairfield ball team with his relatives and friends, fishing, hunting and watching the Minnesota Twins and car racing. He also liked fixing things and working with the farm animals. He especially enjoyed spending time with his four sons.

Wilbert died on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, MN. He lived to 90 years.

He is survived by his wife: Mary Gades of Starbuck; four sons: Barry (Donna) Gades of Morris, Edwin (Diane) Gades of Woking, Canada, Dwight Gades of Starbuck and Neil (Barbara) Gades of Cyrus; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one sister: Lyndell (Jurn) Lindahl of Morris; two brothers: Gerald (Kristie) Gades of Leon, WV and Roger (Marlene) Gades of Montevideo; three sisters-in-law: Shirley Gades of Starbuck, Phyllis Harste of Holloway and Sharon Gades of Morris and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one grandson: Derek Strom; his parents; one sister: Marjorie (LeRoy) Reuss and three brothers: Ronald, Norlen and Rodney Gades.

Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
