The memorial service for Wilbur James "Bill" Olson, of Starbuck, Minnesota will be held on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Barsness Lutheran Church near Glenwood, with Reverend Eileen Mehl officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday, one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be held at a later date at the Barsness Lutheran Cemetery, Glenwood.

Wilbur James "Bill" Olson, son of Carl and Anna (Bergan) Olson was born on May 14, 1929 in Kathryn, North Dakota. At the age of 2, Bill moved with his family to Minnesota and attended country school near Glenwood, Minnesota. After his schooling, Bill entered the United States Army, serving his country from October of 1953 until October of 1955. He also was a member of the Army Reserves for a number of years. After being honorably discharged, Bill lived in Waconia, Minnesota, where he farmed. He was united in marriage to Mary Lou Halbritter in 1954; through this union 3 children were born. In 1966, the couple moved near Glenwood and purchased a farm. Mary Lou died in 1971. Bill continued to farm until 1978, when he sold the farm and worked various jobs in the Glenwood area. In 1980, Bill moved to Starbuck. In 1981, he met Betty Raaum and the couple married on July 5, 1989. The couple continued to make Starbuck their home until the time of Bill's death.

Since his retirement in 1984, Bill had enjoyed woodworking, gardening, painting, crafts and fishing. He will always be remembered for having a "Big Heart" and will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.

Bill died on Friday, March 15, 2013 at the North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale, Minnesota. He was 83 years old.

He is survived by his wife Betty, Starbuck, three sons, Arnie, Detroit, MI, Jerry, Fergus Falls, Jim (Connie), Rothsay; one daughter, Patty (Skip) Humphrey, Cyrus; one brother, Clayton (Bev), Minneapolis; three sisters, Ardis Jungst, Glenwood, Clarice (George) Dieter, Morris and Kathi (Dick) Moe, Ridgecrest, CA; 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Bill was preceded in death by his first wife Mary Lou, and his parents.
