Wilma Jeanette Lang, daughter of William and Myrtle (Wisch) Lang, was born December 31, 1936 in Graceville Township in Big Stone County, Minnesota. She began her schooling at the Kerkhoven Public Schools through the tenth grade. She then transferred to Murdock Public Schools, where she graduated in 1954. On October 2, 1954, she was united in marriage to Orville Lien in Kerkhoven, Minnesota. Following their marriage, the couple farmed with Orville's dad southwest of Starbuck. Early in 1971, they took over the family farm. The continued to farm and Wilma worked as a nurse's aide at the Minnewaska Hospital and also did Hospice Home Care.
Wilma was a member of the House of Prayer Church in Alexandria, where she volunteered as church secretary and also belonged to various prayer groups. Wilma made several mission trips to the Philippines, Russia, Viet Nam, China, Hong Kong and Israel. Wilma enjoyed writing, knitting mittens and scarves, reading, camping, puzzles and visiting with friends and overnight guest.
Wilma died on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at the Glacial Ridge Health System in Glenwood, Minnesota, having lived to reach the age of 71 years.
She is survived by her children: Norman (Lynette) Lien of Glenwood, Wayne (Cherie) Lien of Starbuck, Loren Lien of Watertown, SD, Kathy Lynn Lien Hookom of Starbuck and Joey Lien of Lowry; grandchildren: twelve grandchildren: Corey Lien, Adam Lien, Troy Lien, Aaron Lien, Alisha (Justin) Zavadil, Rebekah Lien, Brianna Lien, Anthony Hookom, Devin Hookom, Craig Hookum, Zachery Hookum and Jacob Lien; one great-granddaughter: Giavanna Christian; two sisters: Leona (Joe) Goblish of Vesta and Jean Miller (special friend: Don) of Clarkfield; two half sisters: Lucille Ecklund of Spokane, WA and Eleanor Wencel of Donnelly; one half brother: David Wencel of Glenwood and many nieces, nephews and special friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson: Daniel John; sister: Betty Valentine; step-father: Mike Toutges; half brother: Edward Lang and half sister: Lottie Wencel.
Honorary pallbearers are Wilma's grandchildren: Corey Lien, Adam Lien, Troy Lien, Aaron Lien, Alisha Zavadil, Rebekah Lien, Brianna Lien, Anthony Hookom, Devin Hookom, Craig Hookum, Zachery Hookum and Jacob Lien and great-granddaughter: Giavanna Christian. Joyce Polensky will serve as organist for the service with Wilma's grandchildren providing special music. Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck is in charge of the arrangement.
