Funeral services for Yuvonne Christensen of Alexandria, formerly of Chokio, will be held Thursday, November 19, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Holmes City, Minnesota, with Reverend Denise Croskey officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. Burial will be at Summit Cemetery in Morris.
Yuvonne Ruth Lake, daughter of Elvina (Rasing) Lake was born June 17, 1931 on the family farm in Baker Township, Stevens County, Minnesota. She was baptized on August 2, 1931 and confirmed on April 14, 1946 at Peace Lutheran Church in Morris. Vonnie attended and graduated from Morris Area High School in 1949. On February 18, 1950, she was united in marriage to Glenn Christensen in Chokio. The couple farmed outside of Chokio until Glenn passed away on September 17, 1976. Vonnie then began working as the activities director for Grace Home in Graceville, which she enjoyed for 20 years. She also finished Glenn's term as Everglade Township Treasurer and was reelected for a second term. Vonnie moved into Chokio in 1985, where she continued to live until 2012, when she moved to Alexandria Bethel Apartments.
Vonnie was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Chokio, the Sarah Circle and mission groups. She enjoyed playing cards, especially bridge; reading, watching the Minnesota Twins and the Minnesota Wild, bowling and visiting with family.
Vonnie died on Sunday, November 15, 2015 at Diamond Willow Assisted Living in Alexandria, MN. She lived to reach the age of 84 years.
She is survived by her children: Richard (Dennette) Christensen of Jamestown, ND, Mark (Janet) Christensen of Perham, Jan (Merida) Christensen of Alexandria, Lynn Christensen of Eagan, Eric (Mary) Christensen of St. James and Kurt (Destinee) Christensen of Verlin, ND; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. Vonnie was preceded in death by her husband; her mother; her brother: Donald Lake and her daughter-in-law: Vicki Christensen.
