Funeral services for Yvonne Dierks of Chokio will be held Thursday, March 17, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Chokio. Reverend Gloria Anderson will be officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will be at a later date in Chokio Lutheran Cemetery, rural Chokio.
Yvonne Lois Asmus, daughter of Paul and Frieda (Carlson) Asmus, was born January 14, 1933. She grew up in Chokio, Minnesota, where she was baptized and confirmed into the Christian Faith at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Yvonne began her schooling at Chokio Elementary, graduating from Chokio High School in 1951. Following her schooling, she went to Miller Hospital, where she received her Nurses Training. On August 29, 1954, she was united in marriage to Robert Dierks. The couple made their home north of Chokio, where they farmed and raised their six children. In 1987, Yvonne and Robert moved into Chokio, where they have continued to live until the time of Yvonne's death.
Yvonne was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Chokio. She was an excellent cook and loved her flowers. Yvonne loved children and was a very nurturing person who took care of many during her lifetime. Her life was her family and her faith.
Yvonne died on Monday, March 14, 2011 at Sanford Health in Fargo, North Dakota, having lived to reach the age of 78 years.
She is survived by her husband: Robert Dierks of Chokio; six children: Dan (Connie) Dierks of Schererville, IN, Rae Ann (Tim) Staples of Starbuck, Tamie (Tom) Schuster of Morris, Gary (Tammy) Dierks of Chokio, Patti (Dennis) Pullis of Graceville and Rob (Lorelei) Dierks of Chokio; 18 grandchildren: Matthew and Marcie Dierks, Tyler (Jody) Staples, Evan (Jessie) Staples, Breanna (Josh) Sherlin, Cassandra Schuster, Dylan Schuster (his fiancAC.: Krista Mahrer), Amanda (Aaron) Shippy, Whitney, Megan and Austin Dierks, Travis, Kody, Wylie and Charlie Pullis, Lindsey, Dalton and Parker Dierks; 3 great-grandchildren: Lucy and Ellie Staples and Thatcher Sherlin; one brother: Ordell (Fran) Asmus of Willmar; three sisters: Cherry (Jerry) Tinquist of Cohasset, Vickie Henrikson of Riverdale, MD and Pam (Allan) Schroden of Fergus Falls; one brother-in-law: Daryl (Phyllis) Dierks of St. Peter and one sister-in-law: Marilyn Welborn of Faribault. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister-in-law: Betty and Oliver Boe and brother-in-law: Rex Welborn.
IN LIEU OF FLOWERS MEMORIALS ARE PREFERRED TO THE FAMILY WHO WILL BE DONATING TO THE MISSION OF HOPE HOSPITAL IN TANZANIA AND GRACEVILLE HOSPITAL.
Pallbearers for the service are Yvonne's grandsons. Julene Amborn will serve as organist for the service. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
